You were teaching an algebra class and wish to curve the grades for the last test. The moon was 73 and the standard deviation was six. And 50% of the grades are to be an a, what is the cut off for the grade? What formula would I use?

Solution:-

Given that,

mean = \mu = 73

standard deviation = \sigma = 6

Using standard normal table,

P(Z < z) = 50%

= P(Z < 0 ) = 0.50

z = 0

Using z-score formula,

x = z * \sigma + \mu

x = 0 * 6 + 73

x = 73

cut off grade = 73
