Answer #1

Answer:

n= 81, T = 0.80, s= 0.110, c= 90%

formula for confidence interval is

\bar x \pm tc * \frac{s}{ \sqrt{n}}

where tc is the t critical value for c= 90%

with df= n-1 =81 -1 = 80

using t table we get,

tc = 1.664

0.80\pm 1.664* \frac{ 0.110}{ \sqrt{81}}

0.7797 < \mu < 0.8203

thus we get 90% confidence interval as

( 0.7797 , 0.8203 )

    Potassium bitartrate, KC4H506, is a compound that occurs naturally in grapes, and therefore, also occurs naturally in wine. When wine is chilled, the potassium bitartrate may crystallize, forming "wine diamonds" -- crystals that fall to the bottom of the bottle. The formation of the crystals and the quantity formed depends on temperature, ethanol concentration, and potassium bitartrate concentration. Bob the Quality Control Engineer wishes to determine the mean mass of apples grown in Tallula's orchard. A sample of 7 randomly-chosen apples has a mean mass of 112 g with a sample standard deviation of 32 g. Using a t-distribution, find a 90% one-sided lower confidence bound on the population mean mass of apples in grams. Give your answer to one decimal place.

    Bob the Quality Control Engineer is studying bottles of apple juice produced in Tallula's factory. He tests a sample of 169 bottles and finds that the mean volume is 884.05 mL, with a sample standard deviation of 15 ml. He plans on performing a two-tailed test with a significance level of 1% to determine if the population mean volume is 886 mL. Bob will use a P value based on a z-statistic. Bob the Quality Control Engineer is studying the heights of the apple trees grown in Tallula's orchard. He wants to test the null hypothesis that the population mean height of the trees is 18 m against the alternative hypothesis that the population mean height of the trees is less than 18 m. He studies a sample of 6 trees and finds the sample mean height to be 16.4 m with a sample standard deviation of 1.1 m. He will test...

    Bob the Agricultural Engineer is studying the masses of the apples grown in Tallula's orchard. He wants to test the null hypothesis that the population mean mass of the apples is 120 g against the alternative hypothesis that the population mean mass of the apples is not 120 g. He studies a sample of 49 apples and finds the sample mean mass to be 123.5 g with a sample standard deviation of 14 g. He will test the hypothesis at...
