Discuss the following methods of Demolition.
Hand Demolition
Pusher arm demolition
Demolition by Explosive
Demolition ball technique
Solution:
Hand Demolition :
Demolition is the method of dismantling or removing a structure. In civil engineering, demolition ( generally ) refers to the dismantling of a building or structure by pre-planned and safe methods.
In hand Demolition, the dismantling is done by using the tools manually ( by using hand tools ) such as sledgehammer, crowbar, wonder bar, screw bar, drillers etc. This method used for small and precise demolition work. This work is time consuming and lot of man power is required.
Pusher arm Demolition :
In pusher arm Demolition method , the process of demolition is done by a bulky metal arm which is pushed in the direction of demolition to be done. The metal arm is mounted on a wheel chasis and is free to rotate. This method is also not suitable for the demolition of large buildings and is generally used for the demolition of small buildings.
Demolition by Explosive:
In demolition by Explosive method, explosives are placed at well defined locations of the structure and is blasted in order to demolish the structure. This method is very fast and doesn't require any heavy machines at the site. It causes least destruction to the nearby buildings and environment.
Demolition ball Technique :
In demolition ball Technique, the structures are demolished by a ball ( metal ball of high mass ) hanged on the boom of the crane. The ball is made to strike the area where demolition is to be done . The ball is swung again and again and the area of interest is hit in order to carry out the demolition process. This method requires highly trained operators as any error can cause great damage to the life and property of the neighbouring areas

An athlete at the gym holds a 3.0 kg steel ball in his hand. His arm is 70 cm long and has a mass of 4.0 kg . What is the magnitude of the torque about his shoulder if he holds his arm straight, but 30 ∘ below horizontal?
An athlete at the gym holds a 2.5 kg steel ball in his hand. His arm is 60 cm long and has a mass of 3.6 kg. Assume the center of mass of the arm is at the geometrical center of the arm. Part A What is the magnitude of the torque about his shoulder due to the weight of the ball and his arm if he holds his arm straight out to his side, parallel to the floor? Part B What is the...

The diagram above shows a side view of a person’s arm. The
forearm and hand together weigh 19N (WFH = 19N). The
center of gravity at point T is located 24cm from
the elbow joint. The person is holding a bowling ball 38cm from the
elbow and the ball weighs 47N (WB = 47N).
(a) Calculate the torque produced by the weight of the forearm
and hand about the elbow joint. Include the direction of the
torque.
(b) Calculate the...
4. A person's in the figure arm is illustrated al find the center of mass (CM) of this arm given the following in formation: The upper arm has a mass of 2.5kg and the CM is 0.18m above the elbow; the lower arm has a mass of 1.6 Kg and ja CN located at 0.12 m to. the right of the elbow; The hand has a mass of 1.64 kg and it's CM is 0.4om to the right of the...

A baseball pitcher loosens up his pitching arm. He tosses a 0.15-kg ball using only the rotation of his forearm, 0.32 m in length, to accelerate the ball. If the ball starts at rest and is released with a speed of 12 m/s in a time of 0.40 s, what torque is applied to the ball while being held by the pitcher's hand to produce the angular acceleration?
A man holds a 182-N ball in his hand, with the forearm horizontal (see the figure). He can support the ball in this position because of the flexor muscle force M, which is applied perpendicular to the forearm. The forearm weighs 19.3 N and has a center of gravity as indicated. Find (a) the magnitude of and the (b) magnitude and (c) direction (as a positive angle counterclockwise from horizontal) of the force applied by the upper arm bone to...
