A skill inventory could be defined as the report or questionakre which would contain the information about the skills, knowledge, experience and abilities of the current employees. It helps to identify the skills an individual has hsed ot could use, identify the skills that could be acquired in the future and highlight the current pattern of the skills.
The suggestions I would like to give for writing and developing the team members' skill inventory are:
1. List out the skills which are relevant to the organisation: Determine what are the important area of work in your irganisation and list out all the specific skills required and associated with that work. You could have your focus on customer service, accounting or anything, just list out the special skills required in that area and write it down to make it a better skill inventory.
2. Identify strengths, weaknesses and also the opportunities: Make sure each member in your team is able to identify which skills are their strengths or they are experts in, which skills are the one they know nothing about and which are the skills they are learning to grow futher. This process would help to identify and reveal the hidden skills and these hidden areas of the team members could be worked on and trained to improve the area of expertise for the employees.
3. Share: At last, share this skill bord with everyone. You can create and share this skill inventory chart with larger audience by posting it in a high traffic area or sending it in an email. This would help in directing the leader to the right people regarding who needs which improvement in what areas and also increases collaboration.
