I recently attended the Canadian Hotel Investment Conference, that was held May 18^th and 19^th at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. I was asked to attend from my district manager and report to you. Please find below a few key takeaways from the conference:

· The Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) and the American Hotel and Lodging Association have jointly released safety protocols as the hospitality industry opens up. These measures pertain to frequent disinfecting of door handles, light switches, remote controls, taps and faucets; removing and replacing bedding, pillows, etc., equipping the hotel staff with PPE (personal protective equipment) kit.

· There is going to be an increased focus on preventive measures. Increased sanitation standards are expected to be implemented by the industry to alleviate the threat of virus.

· The major revenue stream of several Canadian hotel is conferences, trade shows, weddings, receptions and business conferences which has dried up to indefinite time. Hence, hotels that derive major revenues from arranging and hosting such events will have to engage in rebranding themselves to become more vacation homes and family-friendly

Report for the Canadian Hotel Investment Conference

(Held on May 18^th and 19^th )

A two-day conference was held on May 18^th and 19^th  for the Candian Hotel Investment. This conference was conducted jointly by The Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) and the American Hotel and Lodging Association. The main aim of the conference was to give a detailed description of the safety protocols after the spread of the coronavirus outbreak. The conference was started with a welcome note by the manager who presented the agenda of the meeting. The first day i.e. on 18th May, was the welcome reception to all the guests by the speakers. The conference was attended by various prestigious guests from the hospitality industry. It was followed by the luck and after that, the evening session was held for discussing the second part of the agenda which was stating the thing which is to be discussed the next day. The meeting was over at 5 pm.

The next day on 1.e. 19th May was the day of the conference. After the welcome note, the director took a step forward for various safety protocols that must be taken in the hospitality industry after the spread of the virus. He mentioned various things like:

• Replacing the bedding and pillows after every use.
• Disinfecting the handles, switches, and floors of the hotels daily and especially after it was used by some guests.
• The bathrooms must be sanitized and the taps and faucets must be disinfected with sanitizer regularly.
• The hotel staff must be provided with the PPE kit so that their safety is ensured.
• It was also advised to take extra precautionary measures regarding the temperature check and face masks for the customers.

The hotel industry is a place where a lot of events are organized and a lot of gathering takes place which is even a more critical situation and controlling the spread of the virus requires extra precautionary measures. More emphasis was given on accelerating the sanitization of the hotels to ensure safety for the customers and the staff.
