(b) The hypothesis being tested is:

H0: µ = 8

Ha: µ < 8

(c) The test statistic, t = (x - µ)/s/√n

t = (7 - 8)/1.62/√42

t = -4

(d) The p-value is 0.0001.

(e) Since the p-value (0.0001) is less than the significance level (0.05), we can reject the null hypothesis.

Therefore, we can conclude that µ < 8.
