The magnification equation states that M = Hi/Ho = -v/u, where M is the magnification, Hi is the height of the image, Ho is the height of the object, v is the distance from the lens to the image and u is the distance of the object to the lens.

Then M = si/so = 1.5 / 1.0 = 1.5

Then 1.5 = -v / u = -57.6 / u ;

Now u = -57.6 / 1.5 = -38.4 cm

i.e ; u = -38.4 cm

So option D - None of the above .
