Answer #1

Answer-

For any element, atomic number = number of protons in the nucleus

For the element X

Atomic number is 34, so the number of protons in nucleus = 34

Now, mass number of an atom = number of protons in the nucleus + number of neutron in the nucleus

For X

Mass number = 80

\Rightarrow

80 = 34 + number of neutron in the nucleus

Number of neutrons in the nucleus = 80 - 34 = 46

Now for the ion X-2

The charge on the atom is -2

This means that there is excess of 2 unit negative charge on the atom

Now we know that in an atom, negative charge is due to the electrons and positive charge is due to the protons

So -2 charge means that there is excess of 2 electrons in the atom as compared to the number of protons

So the number of electrons = number of protons + 2

Number of electrons = 34 + 2 = 36

Hence the right option is:

b) Electrons = 36, Protons = 34 and Neutrons = 46
