Answer #1

Degree of Dissociation (\alpha) is the amount or fraction of solute that has dissociated (generally in aqueous meedium).

  • Strong electrolyte dissociates completely and hence, have \alpha nearly equal to 1.
  • Weak electrolytes don't dissociate completely and have \alpha less than 1.
  • For weak electrolytes, \alpha = (Kd/Co)1/2 , therefore, with increase in concentration, \alpha decreases.
  • Molar conductance for weak electrolytes is detemined theoretically as, the graph obtained reaches infinity and can not be extrapolated properly.

Option b. is incorrect as only a. is correct and c. incorrect.

Conductivity of Solutions For Che 2A at RCC Introduction Electrolytes are compounds which conduct electricity when dissolved in water. Strong electrolytes consist of ionic compounds which dissociate completely when dissolved in water, AND molecular compounds which completely ionize when dissolved in water. The reactions below illustrate the dissociation reaction of strong electrolytes: Na (aq) + Cl(aq) но NaCl(s) H30 CaBra(s) HO HCl(e) Ca(aq) + 2Br (aa) H*(aq) + C'(aq) Conductivity is a measure of the ability of water to pass...
