variable cost per unit=(cost of highest activity level-cost of lowest activity level)/(highest activity level-lowest activity level)

variable cost per unit=($45000-$40000)/(4250-2000)=$2.22 per hour

fixed cost=total cost-variable cost

apply to the highest activity level

fixed cost=$45000-($2.22*4250)=$35565

cost function is y=a+bx

a is $35565

b is $2.22

y is the total cost

x is the machine hours

so the cost function is y=35565+2.22x
