Please write about Volkswagen emissions scandal.
Please write the main points and issues of the ethical probelms in this case.
Lastly, please also write about lessons learned from Volkswagen emissions scandal
In my opinion, the three moral issues related to interpretation are:
Goodwill - There is a lot of pressure to be a senior. Volkswagen’s 25-page Code of Conduct ostensibly trains every employee in ethics, which seems irrelevant when contrasted with the management’s authoritarian leadership style and the single-minded goal of achieving success at all costs. Moreover, the company's engineering reputation is threatened, and the consequences of the failure of the German economy and the reputation of design and manufacturing will be huge.
Trust - engineers know that in the 1970s, Volkswagen engineers installed "failure devices" on Volkswagen cars, which caused the company to deceive the newly established emission standards. The consequences at the time were minimal-only a fine of $120,000. Even if they cheat, the punishment is very light, and they may have been rationalized. How else can they rationalize this feat? Maybe they think this is in the best interest of the company, so management will approve it.
