Operating leverage:-
Operating leverage reflects the impact of change in sales on the level of operating profit of the firm
The significance of DOL may be interpreted as follows.
Other things remaining constant , higher the DOL, higher will be the change in EBIT for same changes in number of units soled in, if firm A has higher DOL than firm B , profit of firm A will increase at faster rate than that of firm B for same increase in demand.
This however works both ways and so losses of firm A will increase at a faster rate than that of firm B for same fall in demand. This means higher the DOL , more is the risk
:- DOL is high where contribution is high.
:- There is a unique DOL for each level of output.
Thus DOL =contribution/EBIT
What is operating leverage and how is it calculated? What is its significance?
What is meant by the term leverage? How are operating leverage, financial leverage, and total leverage related to the income statement?
At an output level of 18,500 units, you have calculated that the degree of operating leverage is 3.20. The operating cash flow is $48,000 in this case. Ignore the effect of taxes. What will be the new degree of operating leverage for output levels of 20,500 units and 17,000 units ? (Do not round intermediate calculations. Round your answers to 2 decimal places, e.g., 32.16.) 20,500 units 17,000 units Degree of operating leverage
2. What is operating leverage? How, if at all, is it similar to financial leverage? If a firm has high operating leverage would you expect it to have high or low financial leverage? Explain your reasoning. Please also add to your answer an example of where an HR manager may use operating leverage to his or her advantage.
At an output level of 18,500 units, you have calculated that the degree of operating leverage is 2.10. The operating cash flow is $44,000 in this case. Ignore the effect of taxes. What will be the new degree of operating leverage for output levels of 19,500 units and 17,500 units? (Do not round intermediate calculations and round your answers to 2 decimal places, e.g., 32.16.)
13.What is the degree of operating leverage? 14.Using the degree of operating leverage, what is the estimated percent increase in net operating income of a 5% increase in sales? 15.Assume that the amounts of the company’s total variable expenses and total fixed expenses were reversed. In other words, assume that the total variable expenses are $8,400 and the total fixed expenses are $21,000. Under this scenario and assuming that total sales remain the same, what is the degree of operating...
