Answer #1

Estimated machine hours of molding department = 2,500

Estimated variable manufacturing overhead per machine hour of molding department = $3.20

Estimated Total fixed manufacturing overhead of molding department = $14,500

Predetermined overhead rate for molding department = Estimated variable manufacturing overhead per machine hour of molding department + Estimated Total fixed manufacturing overhead of molding department/ Estimated machine hours of molding department

= 3.20+ 14,500/2,500

= 3.20+5.60

= $8.80 per machine hour

Estimated machine hours of fabrication department = 1,500

Estimated variable manufacturing overhead per machine hour of fabrication department = $4.00

Estimated Total fixed manufacturing overhead of fabrication department = $17,700

Predetermined overhead rate for fabrication department = Estimated variable manufacturing overhead per machine hour of fabrication department + Estimated Total fixed manufacturing overhead of fabrication department/ Estimated machine hours of fabrication department

= 4.00+17,700/1,500

= 4.00+11.80

= $15.80 per machine hour

Molding department overheads applied to Job P = Molding department machine hours x Predetermined overhead rate for molding department

= 3,500 x 8.80

= $30,800

Fabrication department overheads applied to Job P = Fabrication department machine hours x Predetermined overhead rate for fabrication department

= 2,400 x 15.80

= $37,920

Job Cost Sheet (Job P)
Direct materials 31,000
Direct labor 35,400
Overhead applied:
Molding 30,800
Fabrication 37,920
Total cost $135,120

Unit product cost of Job P = Total product cost / Number of units

= 135,120/20

= $6,756

Unit product cost $6,756
