Answer #1

An organic compound is said to be saturated if it does not have any functional group present.

The compound A, 2,4-dimethyl hexane corresponds to the saturated hydrocarbon. This is because this compound does not have the presence of any functional group. This group is free from any functional group. Remember C-H bond is not considered as the functional group because it is not reactive due to extremely high bond dissociation energy of C-H bond.

Note: Others are discarded because;

1. 2-bromobutane has bromine as a functional group. Thus this is discarded as a saturated hydrocarbon.

2. 3-pentanol has OH group as a functional group. Thus this is also discarded as a saturated hydrocarbon.

3. 1-propene has double bond as a functional group. Thus this is also discarded as a saturated hydrocarbon.

4. 2-hexyne has triple bond as a functional group. Thus this is also discarded as a saturated hydrocarbon.
