Answer #1

from the kinematic equation

y = usintheta*t-1/2gt^2

4.9 t^2-18sin40*t-2.5 = 0

4.9t^2-11.57t-2.5 = 0

roots are

t =2.56 and -0.199 s

so answer is t = 2.56 s
