in the synthesis of 2-ehtoxynaphthalene, both phenol and ethyl alcohol contain OH group, but only the phenolic OH group reacts to any extent . why?

Due to phenols are more acidic as compared to alcohols.

One more reason- In phenol Partially double bond character is present and it is also showing +mesomeric effect , but in ethyl alcohal no Mesomeric effect and partially double bond character.

so phenolic OH groupreacts to any extent.
