Question

A pump is used to transfer water between two tanks, as shown in the diagram below The suction and delivery pipes are 65mm diameter galvanised iron The delivery pipe is 110m long and the suction pipe is 10m long. The pump used is a 65x50-160 model centrifugal pump manufactured by Southern Cross with an impeller diameter of 146mm. The performance curves for this pump at 1740rpm and 3540rpm are attached. Water 16m Determine the flow rate and margin of safety against cavitation for this system when the pump is run at 3540rpm. For the purposes of this question, assume all minor losses are insignificant.
