A red polymer melt is pumped through a tubular die. At time t, the inlet stream is switched to a white polymer. Assume the fluids to have identical properties and behave as Newtonian fluids. Calculate the volume fraction of red polymer left in the die at the time the first traces of white polymer appear at the exit. Assume that both polymers are Newtonian fluids of identical viscosities and densities. The flow is laminar, isothermal and fully developed.

I am answering this question as per my speculations and my point of view.

As the both polymers are Newtonian fluids of identical viscosities and densities hence when the first traces of white polymer appears at the exit there will be Jo amount of the red polymer left in the die.

Moreover the flow is laminar , isothermal and fully developed which gives a uniformity in flow of molten polymer inside the die hence the volume flow rate will also be constant and at the time t when the white polymer appears at the exit there will be no volume fraction of red polymer left inside the die .
