A quality control computer engineer would like to determine if a new manufacturing process will significantly reduce the proportion of defective computer chips. In a random sample of 398 computer chips manufactured using the present process, 44 were defective, while in a random sample of 417 computer chips manufactured using the new process, 29 were defective. Based upon the sample data, can the quality control engineer state the new manufacturing process is significantly better at \alpha = 5\%? Let population 1 be the computer chips manufactured using the present process and population 2 be the computer chips manufactured using the new process.

A quality control engineer at a manufacturing plant is trying to determine the variation of parts that an operator is making with a particular machine. She takes a sample of nparts and, for each part in the sample, measures how much the part width differs from the specifications for the part. She then uses the mean and standard deviation of these values to estimate the mean value for all parts the operator is making. Constructa 95% confidence interval for the...
