6. The concentration from analysis question 5 represents the concentration in the 10.00 mL sample that was prepared in the volumetric flask using an aliquot of the solution in the 100.00 mL volumetric flask. Calculate the concentration of acetylsalicylic acid in the 100.00 mL volumetric flask. This is a simple dilution – as long as you use the correct volumes!

-Concentration from Question 5= .00096 M

Values you may need?:

Preperation of commercial aspirin solution

1. combine 1 aspirin tablet and 10 mL of 1 M NaOH in a 125 mL Erlenheyemer flask heat to boiling

2. transfer solution to 100 mL volumetric flask and fill to 100 mL mark with deonized water. cap and mix solution.

3. using pipette transfer .200 mL of solution to a 10 mL volumetric flask and dilute it with the .02 M buffered iron (III) chloride solution. transfer to test tube.

Please help me I can't figure it out!

Answer #1

concentration of acetylsalicylic acid :

we are taking a 10 ml of 0.00096M Concentration(took as same the Question 5). Now we are making a unknown concentration solution of aspirin which have a volume of the 0.200 mL

We are adding buffer in the aspirin solution so the concentraion of the aspirin is not going to change so we can find the concentration using N1V1 = N2V2

N1= 0.00096, V1 = 10 ml from the equation 5

N2 = X while V2= 0.2

so

0.00096 * 10 = x * 0.2

x = 0.048 M

So the concentration of the aspirin solution will be 0.048 M

( * Concentration is directly propotional to the Volume )
