RFID holds the promise of being able to wave an RFID scanner across a warehouse full of inventory (all marked with RFID tags of course) and get a rapid inventory count. This sounds a lot better than costly manually executed cycle count or your basic stock count.

What are some the technical impediments / issues with RFID technology that make this kind of a scenario somewhat difficult to achieve?

For the purpose of tracking practice many of the companies are using the Radio Frequency Identification technology. the given scenario highlights that the RFID is used by a warehouse so as to count the inventory through RFID scanner. Some of the technical challenges are mentioned below

  • The cost of the usage and maintenance of RFID technology can be costlier.
  • Making the people to understand the operations of RFID is rather difficult which can impact the efficiency and performance.
  • Its trouble with the metals and liquids is another problem which can reduce the efficiency of the RFID technology.
  • The issues related to tag collision
