A person comes into the doctors complaining about her heart. The doctors check blood pressure, x-rays, and blood work. They noticed in the patient's blood work that the viscosity of their blood was high. What could be a cause of a high viscosity? What could the patient potentially have? What does it compromise? Note that kidney function test came back normal.

High blood viscosity may be due to Hyperviscosity syndrome.

Hyperviscosity is a clinical condition where the blood viscosity is increased.Hyperviscosity causes due to Leukemias,polycythemia,multiple myeloma etc.
