I want to determine a state of some substance, and I know that P = 200 kPa; is it helpful to write PV = mRT to find the second property?

  • Yes, PV=mRT is used to find other properties, but you must have other properties accept one.
  • Here PV=mRT is ideal gas law. it is the equation of state of hypothetical ideal gas. it is the good approximation for behaviour of many gases under many conditions.
  • example for one cylinder has ideal gas at temperature T1 and pressure P1 if temperature of gas is redused to T2 then ideal gas law is used to find pressure of second state.
