Question

8. An empty beer mug of mass 0.80 kg is sliding on a bar counter, after being thrown by a drunken man with an initial speed of 2.5 m/s. The force of friction between the mug and the counter has a magnitude of 1.2 N. The bartender is distracted and unable to catch the mug. Fortunately without interacting with anything but the counter, the mug stops before reaching the end of the counter. (This problem is a good review of both kinematics and dynamics) (a) Draw a free-body diagram of the mug as it slides on the counter. (b) On your free-body diagram, indicate the object that is exerting each of your drawn fores. (o) What is the acceleration of the mug as it slides on the counter? Give both magnitude ad direction (d) How much distance did the mug cover as it slid on the counter? (e) How much time, after being thrown, did it take for the mug to stop? (f) Neatly draw position vs time, velocity vs time and acceleration vs time plots for the mug Choose the origin of your reference frame to be the point of release of the mug
