The most appropriate goal of the firm to be pursued by managers is to maximise the wealth of the shareholders.

Though earlier it was a popular belief that the appropriate goal of the firm is to maximise earnings, revenues etc., of late it is being established that wealth maximisation is the goal to be pursued by the firm.
