"magnitude of acceleration".

Total acceleration = total force / total mass

= 7.5 * 9.8 / (7.5 + 2.5)
= 7.35m/s^2

This is because the total force is only because of the body that is hanging (due to gravity). But the total mass that is accelerated is the sum of both the bodies, because they both are dragged.

The tension in the string is the same as the the force acting on the second object. Which is mass * acceleration.

= 7.35 * 2.5
= 18.375 N
