Answer #1

Answer 1 - False

Sartre was an atheist and an existentialist. He believed that humans are free individuals who are responsible for their own actions.

Answer 2 - False

Sarte used the analogy of paperknife to explain how essence precedes existence in the case of a paper-knife. Paper knife was an idea thought out by a human before it existed. It had a purpose even before it existed. In this case, essence precedes existence.

In the case of human beings, existence precedes essence. We are not born with a purpose, rather we find our own purpose.
