2) The hematologic studies includes investigation of blood components.

  • An infection or disease changes the amount of blood cells in the body.
  • Red blood cell count and hemoglobin levels can detect anemia, hemophilia. Study of shape of red cells can detect genetic disorders.
  • Differential count of white blood cells can detect infections, leukemia.
  • Platelets count can detect blood clotting disorders.
  • Also studies of antibodies in plasma detect presence of many pathogens.

Hence, hematological stidies are very important to understand the cause of a disease.
