b). The detergent is derived from sulfuric acid (H2SO4).

If a molecule has areas where there is a partial positive or negative charge, it is called polar, or hydrophilic. Polar molecules dissolve easily in water. Hence the hydrophilic part in the above figure has SO42- ions which is being liberated from H2SO4 acid and hence the sodium ions gets attached to hydroxl ions (which got ionised in water).
