The solution of sodium thiosulfate is mixed with aqueous solution of PVP , then concentrated HCl is added. On constant stirring a solid mass is obtained i.e. Sulfur .

Na2S2O3.5H2O(s) +2HCl \rightarrow 2 NaCl (aq)+ SO2 + S(s) + 6 H2O (l)
