Answer #1

Speed is a scalar quantity. Its has only magnitude and no direction. student is saying speed of -10m/s ,so this statement is wrong since negative sign here indicating the direction.

Student has actually described the velocity ( which has both magnitude as well as direction).

The peregrine falcon (see figure) is the fastest bird, flying at a speed of 200 mi/h. Nature has adapted the bird to reach such a speed by placing baffles in its noseto prevent air from rushing in and slowing it down. Also, the bird's eyes adjust their focus faster than the eyes of any other creature, so the falcon can focusquickly on its prey. Assume that a peregrine falcon is moving horizontally at its top speed at a height of...

A 290 g bird flying along at 5.8 m/s sees a 9.0 g insect heading straight toward it with a speed of 25 m/s (as measured by an observer on the ground, not by the bird). The bird opens its mouth wide and enjoys a nice lunch. What is the bird's speed immediately after swallowing? I tried plugging in the numbers using answers from other questions and got 3.8m/s but it says it is wrong: 0.29*5.8 + 0.009*(-25) = 0.38*V
