NASA is conducting an experiment to find out the fraction of people who black out at G forces greater than 6.

Step 2 of 2 :

Suppose a sample of 984 people is drawn. Of these people, 432 passed out. Using the data, construct the 95% confidence interval for the population proportion of people who black out at G forces greater than 6. Round your answers to three decimal places.

Answer #1

Sample size = n = 984

x = 432

Sample proportion is

432 0.4390 P = 984

We have to construct a 95% confidence interval for the population proportion.

Formula is

p- E,pE)

Here E is a margin of error.

E = Zc * 1/ P(1 -p)

Zc = 1.96

( From z table)

0.4390 (1 0.5610) 1.96 0.00025 0.0310 E 1.96 984

So confidence interval is ( 0.4390 - 0.0310 , 0.4390 + 0.0310) => ( 0.408 , 0.470)

Lowe Endpoint: 0.408

Upper Endpoint: 0.470
