Answer #1

Solution :

A) Solubility of Copper(II) hydroxide:

Addition of HBr increases the solubility of Cu(OH)2 because it forms highly soluble CuBr2.

Cu(OH)2 + 2HBr === CuBr2 + 2H2O

B) Solubility of Zinc carbonate (ZnCO3):

Addition of HBr increases the solubility of ZnCO3 in water because ZnCO3 is basic carbonate. Hence, addition of HBr shifted equilibrium towards forward direction.

ZnCO3 + 2HBr ==== ZnBr2 + H2O + CO2

C) Solubility of Lead bromide:

Addition of HBr decreases the solubility due to common ion effect. Bromide ion is common for both PbBr2 and HBr. The addition of HBr causes a decrease in ionization of PbBr2.

PbBr2. = Pb2+ + 2Br-

HBr == H+ + Br-

Due to common ion effect, solubility decreases.
