Answer #1

Solution:

Pressure due to the vertical column of a fluid of height H, density \rho is given by

P = \rhogH

If pressure = 1.325 kN/m2, is due to a column of water, then

\rhogH = 1.325 kN/m2

(1000 kg/m2) (9.81 m/S2)H = 1.325 x 103 N/m2

1.325x10 (1000kgm-3) (9.81ms-2)

H = 0.135066 m water

H = 135.066 mm water

    Neglecting the pressure drop due to resistance, calculate the blood pressure, in pascals, in an artery in the brain 30 cm above the heart. The pressure at the heart is 120 mm Hg. The density of blood is 1.05 g/cm2 and the density of mercury is 13600 kg/m2. Do not type in units. Two different manometers are used to read a pressure. One uses water of density 1.0 g/cm3 and reads "150 cm water". The other one uses an unknown...

    In a section of horizontal pipe with a diameter of 4.0 cm, the pressure is 47 kPa and water is flowing with a speed of 2.0 m/s. The pipe narrows to 2.0 cm. What is the pressure in the narrower region? Treat the water as an ideal incompressible fluid. The density of water is 1000 kg/m3 . (1 kPa = 1000 Pa)
