quantity of heat absorbed = mass of ice x specific heat of ice x ( rise in temperature)

50 x1000 J = mass x 2.06J/g.C x [ (-10) - (-50)]C

thus mass = 50x1000J / 2.06 J/g.C x 40C

=606.79 g

We need 606.79g of ice to absorb 50kJ of heat to bring the temperature from -50 to -10C
