Answer #1

Answer 1

a) Most volatile : Methanol

Least volatile : isopropyl acetate

Explanation: Methanol has highest vapor pressure among the three at all temperatures while isopropyl acetate has least.

b) Normal boiling point is temperature at which vapor pressure is equal to atmospheric pressure i.e. 760 torr.

From Graph given,

B.pt of methanol = 65 °C

B.pt of isopropyl acetate = 89 °C

B.pt of isopropyl alcohol = 82 °C

c) At 79°C, vapor pressure of isopropyl acetate is 400 torr but external pressure is 799 torr. As external pressure is more than vapor pressure, the vapors present will be compressed, so liquid will increase.

Answer is more

Answer 2

a) As the temperature heat curve is straight line parallel to x-axis at two temperatures.

-25 °C (melting point)

65 °C (boiling point)

So, boiling point is 65 °C.

b) After addition of 29 kJ heat, the curve is a straight line parallel to x-axis at temperature of 65 °C.

So, it is a equilibrium between liquid and gas.

Hence, states of X present are liquid and gas.
