Null hypothesis

In Statistical Inference, to be precise hypothesis testing we have two kinds of hypothesis- Null Hypothesis and Alternative Hypothesis.

Null hypothesis is basically a statement that there is no association or relationship between two groups (or phenomenon) or there is no significant difference between two specific populations.

Thus the null hypothesis is often a statement of "no effect" or "no difference".

Thus the first option is correct.
