Question

Exercises For the following problems, unless instructed otherwise, assume that the residuals are normally distributed and variances homogeneous. For each problem, recognize the ANOVA design involved, state the null hypothesis or hypotheses, and, using statistical software, construct an ANOVA table. State a biological conclusion based on your statisti- cal analysis. Where appropriate, construct an inter- action plot and interpret. All exercises are suitable for a computer solution.

Answer #1

Answer to the question)

There are two factors number of daily feedings ( 3 levels) and temperature (3 levels)

each scenario has been repeated 5 times

.

Null hypothesis: Number of offsprings do not depend on temperature

Null hypothesis: Number of offsprings is indepednent of daily feedings

Null hypothesis : number of offsprings is independent of the interaction effect of temerature and daily feedings

.

The best test that suits it is : Two way ANOVA with repetition

.

For this enter the data in excel

click on data tab

click on data analysis

select two way ANOVA with repetition

following window appears on screen:

.

A15 Anova: Two-Factor With Replication Number of daily feedings 18 Input Range SA$2:$D$18 28 36 29 Rowsper sample 15 27 19 0.05 37 Output options 75 28 29 32 Output Range New Worksheet Ply: 10 28 39 42 47 O New Workbook 12 13 14 17 51 42 16 32 28 35 17 39 21

.

enter the data range

rows per sample = 5

click ok

we get the following ANOVA output on screen:

.

.

Interpretation of results:

Effect of temperature : P value = 7.94E-07 , this is a p value < 0.05, this implies the effect of temperature is significant on number of offsprings

Effect of daily feedings: P value = 5.8 E -08 , since this p value < 0.05, this implies daily feeding also has a significant effect on number of offsprings

For interaction of temerature and daily feedings the P value = 0.733 > 0.05, hence the itneraction of these two factors do not have a significant effect on the number of offsprings

Case: Enron: Questionable Accounting Leads to CollapseIntroductionOnce upon a time, there was a gleaming office tower in Houston, Texas. In front of that gleaming tower was a giant “E,” slowly revolving, flashing in the hot Texas sun. But in 2001, the Enron Corporation, which once ranked among the top Fortune 500 companies, would collapse under a mountain of debt that had been concealed through a complex scheme of off-balance-sheet partnerships. Forced to declare bankruptcy, the energy firm laid off 4,000...
