10.5 Diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are two diseases that are increasingly burdening the senior population in the United States. A large national sample of health care visits to the Veteran's Health Administration system indicates that 9.1% of veterans in their 60s have stage 3–5 CKD. However, this rate is 14.1% among veterans in their 60s diagnosed with diabetes, and only 6.4% among veterans in their 60s without diabetes. Express these three percents as probabilities for a randomly selected veteran 60 to 69 years of age. Use proper probability notation as in Example 10.3.
