Chipotle Mexican Grill has about 2400 restaurants and they sold on an average about $2 million. Chipotle’s ethical issues started off in 2015 when its food was the basis of spreading diseases like E-Coli and Salmonella. These food related diseases that spread to its customers also included norovirus. Upon investigation, Chipotle noted that the company policy was too poor to follow hygiene factors. Chipotle noted that the safety guidelines were not being followed. The employees were asked to work even when they were sick. The ethical issue concerning Chipotle Mexican Grill is that both the employees and the management are not adhering to the safety norms and following safety protocol. Though Chipotle vows to provide quality food, the ethical issues arise when the manager violates the health protocol of the company and/or the employee is required to work when they are sick.

According to the Utilitarian ethical theory, an act is considered morally correct if it does greater good for a greater number of people. Chipotle is ethically did not act for the best interest for the greater number of people- their customers. Instead, their prime focus was only on making profits. Chipotle’s action was absolutely unethical and unfair. They did not have any morality when the management required the employees to work for them even when they were sick. This action led to spread of infections that severely affected millions of customers.
