A cubed-shaped cooler has 6 walls made of 2 cm thick styrofoam. Its lengths and heights are 40 cm each. If it were filled with 0 degree (C) ice, how much ice would melt in 3.1 hours if the cooler was in +32 C warm air?

Use 0.035 for the k value of styrofoam and 334000 J/kg for the latent heat of fusion for ice.

Liquid helium us stored in container fitted with 7.00-cm -thick "superinsulation" consisting of numerous lavers of very thin aluminized Mylar sheets. The rate of evaporation of liquid helium in a 200-L container is about 0.700 L per day when the container is stored at room temperature (20 degree C). The density of liquid helium is 0.125 kg/L and the latent heat of vaporization is 21.0 kJ/kg. Estimate the thermal conductivity of the superinsulation. You are in charge of transporting a...

please answer the 2 questions :) Question 8 A tank of water has been outdoors in cold weather, and a slab of ice 3.9 cm thick has formed on its surface (see the figure). The air above the ice is at 13°C. Calculate the rate of formation of ice (in centimeters per hour) on the ice slab. Take the thermal conductivity of ice to be 0.0040 cal/s cm-C°, its density to be 0.92 g/cm3, and its latent heat of fusion...

Heat conduction occurs through any material, represented here by a rectangular bar, whether window glass or walrus blubber. The temperature of the material is T2 on the left and T1 on the right, where T2 is greater than T1. The rate of heat transfer by conduction is directly proportional to the surface area A, the temperature difference T2 - T1, and the substance's conductivity k. The rate of heat transfer is inversely proportional to the thickness d. Q kA (T2-T)...
