Answer #1

Data required

Molar mass of Water ( H2O ) = ( 2 \times 1.0079 ) + ( 16.00 ) = 18.02 g / mol

Molar mass of MgSO4. 7H2O = 24.31 + 32.06 + ( 4 \times 16.00 ) + 7 ( 18.02 ) = 246.51 g / mol

Calculation of theoretical % of hydrate in MgSO4. 7H2O

1 mole  MgSO4. 7 H2O contain 7 moles of H2O.

Therefore, mass of water present in 1 mole of MgSO4. 7H2O = 7 \times mass of Water

mass of water present in 1 mole of MgSO4. 7H2O = 7 \times 18.02 g = 126.14 g

% of water in MgSO4. 7H2O =[ Mass of water / Mass of MgSO4. 7H2O ] 100

% of water in MgSO4. 7H2O = [ 126.14 g / 246.51 g ] 100

% of water in MgSO4. 7H2O = 51.17

ANSWER : Theoretical % of water in MgSO4. 7H2O = 51.17
