need help with the FBD, the unknowns, and L1 and L2
thank you
In this case...
In this case both top and bottom supports of the PVC pipe are fixed. There is only one lever arm at the center of the pipe where torque is caused by applying weights of 5 N on each side of the hanger. Place dial gage at the point where load is applied to measure the deflection caused by it. After making the initial reading zero on the dial gage, place the loads on the hanger and measure the final deflection. UZ Rxn A Rxn Figure 1: Experiment arrangement. Cross Section and Material Properties: L = Length measured between top support & lever arm = 15.375 in (0.391m). L2 = Length measured between top support & lever arm = 12.625 in (0.321m). D = One half the distance of lever arm = 4.725 in (0.12m) Outside diameter of pipe = 0.844 in (21.437mm). Inside diameter of pipe F 0.602 in (15.291mm). Shear modulus of PVC = 1.379 Gpg Experimental Measurements A - Deflection measured at dial gage 0.472 in. T: Tergue at lever arm = F (20) . (F= 5N) Question 1: Calculate the angle of twist in the bottom portion of the shaft - arctan(A/D) = _0.099_ rad Question 2: Draw the FBD (free body diagram) around point B (cut off at two sides of joint B)
