For being eligible for medical aid, one must meet the requirements for an eligibility group that the state covers under its Medical aid program.  There are many different eligibility groups in the Medicaid program, and each one has its own set of requirements. Primarily two types of requirements must be met: General requirements and Financial requirements. Some additional functional requirements are required to be qualified for long-term care services.

For verifying a patient’s eligibility on the portal, one needs the information from the Medicaid card, which includes the member’s name, Medicaid ID, and date of birth. For being eligible for Medicaid, federal law requires states to cover certain groups of individuals. Families with low-income qualified pregnant women and young children, and individuals receiving supplemental security income can be under mandatory eligibility groups.

States can have additional options for covering additional groups, such as individuals receiving home and community-based services and children in foster care who are not otherwise eligible.
