Do wealthy nations using the labor of developing nations have responsibilities to the people and environment of that country? Why or why not? Be sure to use examples of existing companies to support your response.
Ans) Wealthy nations invest in less wealthy nations due to lower wages and abundance of labour. It increases their profit and expands the market for their goods. Also their products become more competitive due to reduced input cost.
In doing so, they tend to pollute the environment and also highly exploit the labours. It is moral social duty of the companies to conserve the environment where they are operating and also contribute towards the betterment of workers as the companies are being benefitted by them and destroying something that benefits you is immoral and also unwise.
eg- Amazon highly exploits the workers in India. According to a report, it pays only $233 to warehouse workers. Affording all the necessities in such small salary is impossible.
Another example is Hindustan Uniliver (a British Dutch manufacturing company) is held responsible for mercury pollution in Kodaikanal (India) which has affected a lot of people and has made them sick.
