A manufacturer of banana chips would like to know whether its bag filling machine works correctly at the 447 gram setting. Is there sufficient evidence at the 0.01 level that the bags are underfilled or overfilled? Assume the population is normally distributed. State the null and alternative hypotheses for the above scenario.

The null hypothesis is the statement of no effect. It is given as follows:

H_0 : \mu = 447 i.e. the the mean weight of the bag filled is 447 gram

The alternative hypothesis is :

H_1 : \mu \ne 447 i.e. the bags are either underfilled or overfilled from 447 gram.
