a star can become a black hole if all of its mass is within its schwarzchil radius . the sun which has a mass of 1.99*10^30kg , will eventually burn out and collapse . what would be its schawarzchilds radius , if it was possible for it to be a black hole ?

Answer #1

we know, escape speed, ve = sqrt(2*G*M/R)

when, R = Rs( schwarzchil radius) ==> Ve = c

c = sqrt(2*G*M/Rs)

c^2 = 2*G*M/Rs

==> Rs = 2*G*M/c^2

= 2*6.67*10^-11*1.99*10^30/(3*10^8)^2

= 2950 m or 2.95 km

    3. In this problem, we are going to examine the supermassive black hole in the center of our galaxy, Sagittarius A.. (a) (15 points) We can calculate its mass using the orbits of stars gravitationally bound to it in the same way that you can use the Earth's orbit to calculate the mass of the Sun). The orbit of a star, S2, has been fully mapped out. Its period is 15.24 yr and semi-major axis length is 980 AU. Using...

    A black hole is an object with mass, but no spatial extent. It truly is a particle. A black hole may form from a dead star. Such a black hole has a mass several times the mass of the Sun. Imagine a black hole whose mass is fifty-seven times the mass of the Sun. Would you expect the period of an object orbiting the black hole with a semimajor axis of 1 AU to have a period greater than, less...

    Nothing can escape the event horizon of a black hole, not even light. You can think of the event horizon as being the distance from a black hole at which the escape speed is the speed of light, 3.00 × 108 m/s, making all escape impossible. Part A What is the radius of the event horizon for a black hole with a mass 6.0 times the mass of the sun? This distance is called the Schwarzschild radius.
