You are an insurance investigator trying to figure out if a driver making an insurance claim was exceeding the speed limit before a collision. Driver A has a car of mass mA, which slammed into Car B (mass mB) which was at rest at a stop sign before the collision. The two cars locked their bumpers during the collision. From the damage, you estimate that the collision speed was v_hit. You can tell from marks at the scene of the accident that car A skidded with locked brakes a distance L before the collision, and the two cars together skidded a distance l after the collision. You look up the coefficient of kinetic friciton between the tires of both car A and B and the road surface (mu_k). With this information, calculate v_o, the speed car A was travelling when driver A hit their brakes.

If you could please show the formulas used I would really appreciate it! You are called as an expert witness to analyze the following auto accident: Car B, of mass 1900 kg, was stopped at a red light when it was hit from behind by car A, of mass 1500 kg. The cars locked bumpers during the collision and slid to a slop with brakes locked on all wheels. Measurements of the skid marks left by the tires showed them...

Please show all steps. 3. You are an insurance investigator called to the scene of a car accident. According to witnesses, a blue car (mass ms) was traveling south through an intersection when it was hit by a red car (mass m.) traveling east that ran a stop sign. You observe that the red car came to rest in the intersection. The blue car ended up a distance from the intersection, in a direction measured south of east. Determine the...

You’re an accident investigator at a scene where a drunk driver in a 2300 kg car has plowed into a 1200 kg parked car with its brake set. You measure skid marks showing that the combined wreckage moved 24 m before stopping, and you determine a frictional coefficient of 0.68. What do you report for the drunk driver’s speed just before the collision?

Consider the following two-caraccident: Two cars of equal mass collide at an intersection. Driver E was traveling eastward, anddriver N, northward. After the collision, the two cars remainjoined together and slide, with locked wheels, before coming torest. Police on the scene measure the length of the skid marks to be 9 meters. The coefficient offriction between the locked wheels and the road is equal to 0.9. Each driver claims that hisspeed was less than 14 meters per second (50 mph)....

You have been called to testify as an expert witness in a trial involving a head-on collision. Car A weighs 1515 lb and was traveling eastward. Car B weighs 1125 lb and was traveling westward at 44.0 mph. The cars locked bumpers and slid eastward with their wheels locked for 20.5 ft before stopping. You have measured the coefficient of kinetic friction between the tires and the pavement to be 0.750. How fast (in miles per hour) was car A...

    5. A runaway truck with a mass of 2100 kg strikes a car of mass 1350 kg, which was at rest before the collision. The car’s wheels are locked during the entire event, but the truck has no brakes, i.e., it is rolling freely on the road. The two vehicles move forward together, and the car’s tires leave skid marks for a distance of 1.5 m. Suppose that the coefficient of kinetic friction between the car’s tires and the road...

An accident has taken place, and the insurance company has sent their top physicist (you) to investigate. A 2000 kg truck (m2) has gotten into an accident with a 1500 kg car (m1). The two cars collided and stuck together leaving a straight, 50 m long skid mark (L). The mass of the two cars together (mT) is 3450 kg after the collision due to some parts falling off (ignore any physics involving the fallen parts). The coefficient of kinetic...
