Answer #1

Total distance travelled by the car is

       d = [(0.5 h) ( 50 miles / h) ] + [ ( 10 minute )(1 h / 60 min) ( 60 miles / h) ]

           = 25 miles + 10 miles

            = 35 miles

           =56327.04 m

average speed

    v = d /t

       = ( 56327.04 m ) / [ ( 0.5 x 3600 s ) + (10 x 60 s )]

       = 23.46 m/s
