Answer #1

Being propane the compound:

Empirical formula: C3H8

To establish the empirical formula, the subscripts of the molecular formula must be written as the smallest possible integers. In this compound the subscripts are the smallest possible integers, therefore the empirical equals its molecular formula.

Molecular formula: C3H8

HDI:

Insaturations are calculated with the formula:

I=\frac{C_{nx2+2}-H+N-X}{2}

In this case:

I=\frac{3x2+2-8}{2}

I= 0.

SPECTRA ANALYSIS INFORMATION
MS Observing the mass spectrum,
identifying the peak of the molecular ion.
It gives the molecular weight of the compound.
IR Observing the peaks in the spectrum. It gives the functional groups of the compound, in this case the alkane has the characteristic band of C-H at 3000cm-1 and of CH2 at 1465 cm-1.
1H RMN
Observing the spectrum, considering the displacement, the multiplicity and the integrated area of the peaks
It gives the number of hydrogens with different chemical environment, in this case the compound has 2 types of hydrogen.
13C RMN Observing the spectrum, considering the displacement of the peaks It gives the number of carbons with different chemical environment, in this case the compound has 2 types of carbon.

The structure are:

CH3-CH2-CH3

The functional group present in the compound is an alkane, the 1H RMN indicates that the compound has 2 types of hydrogen, and one peak integrates for 6 hydrogens and the other peak integrates for 2 hydrogens, the13C RMN indicates that the compound has 2 types of carbons nearly indistinguishable corresponding to the middle carbon an the carbons of the sides (are equivalents).
